5 Fandom Friday: My Comfort Foods

fandom.5.friday

I have a bad habit, and that habit is stress eating. As a result, I have a lot of go-to foods that I love to eat (or snack on) when I’m stressed, angry, or sad. Or just any time, really.

1. Turkey Pot Pie

My mom makes turkey pot pie once a year–out of our Thanksgiving leftovers. From the beginning of November, it’s all I think about. I love it even more than Thanksgiving dinner itself! In fact, that’s all I’m thinking about right now. I can’t even remember what else I was going to put on this list anymore.

2. Sushi

Okay, I lied. I had to put on my favorite food. I know that most people wouldn’t put sushi as a comfort food, but nothing puts me in a better mood than some nice pieces of salmon nigiri. The warm rice, the cool sushi, and the smooth texture just makes me want to stuff my face until I fall into a blissful food coma.

3. Double Chocolate Banana Bread

Chocolate bread, chocolate chips, and bananas. It’s basically the best bread you can ever make. I could eat an entire loaf when it’s right out of the oven. That is, of course, only if I’m the only one at home. I have to share, otherwise.

4. Broccoli Cheddar Soup

I’m lactose intolerant and I still love this stuff. It’s creamy and delicious, and has the perfect balance of flavors. It’s especially great in a bread bowl. I love the way the inside of the bowl absorbs the soup perfectly. I’ve been going to Panera for more than a decade and I can never bring myself to order anything but this. My boyfriend even made me broccoli cheddar soup for Valentine’s Day. It’s totally my thing.

5. Pierogi and Kielbasa

pierogi

This is another meal my mom makes, except instead of frying everything she boils the pierogi and sautees the kielbasa in tomatoes. It’s amazing. The great thing is that there are all these great Polish delis around the Chicago area, and fresh kielbasa and pierogi is worth shanking someone for. Luckily, you don’t have to. The deli prices are pretty good.

What are your favorite foods? Do any of ours overlap? Which meals bring you back to someplace good? Share in the comments!
